"Movies" - Alien Ant Farm

Heard this one today, so it was only appropriate that movies become the topic.

Ever have one of those movies that always seem to be on one of the cable channels? You know, you own it, and could watch it at any time, but get sucked in every time you start flipping the channels? Yeah, I know - it's called The Shawshank Redemption. I can't beat this movie - no matter where I am, or when it might be on TBS (like it is all the damn time), I can't change the channel. I know the movie almost line by line, but still gravitate to it any time I even see a scene of it somewhere.

We saw Because of Winn Dixie this past weekend with the kids. I was a little hesitant, thinking that if my second grader could read the book, it certainly wasn't worth my while. I was wrong. This movie was great, no matter how old you are. And if you looked close enough and read between the lines, the movie taught us a few valuable lessons that are biblically aligned - such as the need for community, and the need to be open with others about problems in your life.

Now as much as I enjoyed this movie, there are so many others that I have always liked better. It is almost impossible for me to make a top 10 list, and if I did, most of the movies would be very crude and sophomoric - but that is my style.

So.....let's take a stab at it anyway, shall we?

1. The Shawshank Redemption (see above)
2. Anything Kevin Smith (especially Clerks and Dogma)
3. When Harry Met Sally (okay, I like Sleepless in Seattle and While You Were Sleeping, okay?)
4. Anything Mel Brooks (Blazing Saddles, History of the World, Young Frankenstein)
5. Anything Monty Python (Holy Grail, Meaning of Life - and my wife still doesn't get it)
6. Caddyshack
7. Braveheart
8. Animal House (I was in a fraternity, after all)
9. Ferris Bueller's Day Off
10. 16 Candles (or most of the John Hughes movies, for that matter)
11. The Matrix

Okay, so it isn't 10, it's 11 (this one goes to 11 - This Is Spinal Tap, another favorite) and much like assholes, everybody has an opinion, but these are mine. Okay, some have imperforated anuses, but that is another topic for another day. Agree or disagree, there are some classics there. I could have added Dumb and Dumber, but didn't, so the list is better than it could have been.

2 thumbs up! Way up!
